It takes Paris Hilton to sell even for a good cause

Simple Living

Well we all know that Paris Hilton seems to have mastered the art of selling herself to market her products already. What’s interesting to know now is that it also takes a Paris Hilton to raise funds. And it’s not the Race To Erase MS campaign I am talking about.

I am talking about a T-shirt created by an artist that features a “Darfur victim carrying what appears to be a Louis Vuitton purse and a tiny dog” ala Paris Hilton. The custom T shirts are purposely designed to show what the world is paying attention to while thousands die of genocides.

Yes, it’s all for a good cause. The T-shirt’s designer, Nadia Plesner is a member of Designers for Darfur, a group that aims to raise money for genocide victims in Sudan.

The image entitled “Simple Living” (probably taken from Paris’s previous reality show, too) has got the artist inspired. “I felt horrified by the fact that even with the genocide and other ongoing atrocities in Darfur, Paris Hilton was the one getting all the attention,” she says.

Sad but true. But is that Paris Hilton’s fault? I don’t think so but at least there’s Paris Hilton they can use to convey their group’s message, right?!

Anyway, the T-shirt’s design is actually cool. But I guess I’d have mine at SonicShack.com. I know it’s where I can reproduce that design using state of the art digital printing. Since the site allows me to design my own T-shirt I also get to have a T-shirt that speaks so much of my personality. I mean, “Simple Living” is okay yet I think it’s too strong and emotional for my personality.

I hope a little alteration would do no harm in conveying the shirt’s message.

Paris and Kathy Hilton

Well as it looks like, our dear heiress, Paris Hilton is really taking her “new image” as an advocate of erasing multiple sclerosis seriously.

Paris Hilton does a little…errr… too much self promotion

Paris Hilton T-shirts

I’ve actually been long raving about how I would love to have Paris’s cutie T-shirts with her name printed on.

And yes, that is despite the fact that I am no big fan of hers. It’s just that I’ve always found those white t-shirts with pink prints as cute and charming.

Now I see what Hayden Panettiere meant when she said our dear heiress is a marketing genius. Paris sure is the queen of self-promotion. However this time, Paris promotes something for a cause. And that is to benefit the Nancy Davis Foundation’s Race to Erase MS campaign.

Paris spreads love in South Africa

Friday, March 21st, 2008

paris_hilton-in-south-africa.jpg

If I tell you our dear heiress, Paris Hilton could also be compassionate to other people, would you believe me? Well I wouldn’t believe myself either. But I guess knowing Paris; she’d really try too hard to convince people that she is after all a nice and kind person.

With the Good Charlotte tour now starting, Paris made sure that she doesn’t just sit on the backstage. Preparing for the band’s show in Johannesburg today, Friday, Paris found some way to keep herself busy. Clad in a classy white dress, Paris stopped by the Jakaranda Kinderhuis School in Pretoria doing what she enjoyed the most, getting people’s attentions.

However, it’s a bit different now for she really did mingle with her South African fans in her two-hour visit by signing autographs as well as take photos and hugs with the kids.

Seeing her photo with an unknown South African child makes me believe more that being nice just isn’t Paris. The photo didn’t even look close to being real; it’s just oh-so choreographed!

Paris indeed is trying way too hard to make people believe she also has that compassionate side.

Well, well, as we all can see, it seems like Paris has her own agenda (as usual) accompanying her new beau Benjie Madden with the trip.

On second thought, we should give some credit to Paris for at least trying to ‘look’ nice with her fans. And if there’s one place she should go to see the other side of the world (read: the existence of REALLY poor people), then it’s South Africa. I guess this is a good start for spreading some love.

What we don’t know about Paris…

Paris Hilton angel

Paris Hilton does charity. Wow! I don’t really know if this is news or what, but since I’m not really a fan of Paris Hilton and have not been following her life until now, I think this is quite a trivia (at least for me).

Well according to a fan site that I read, since she was a little girl, Paris has already been doing several charity fundraisers which was said to be inspired from her mother, Kathy Hilton. That same fan site relays that Paris’s charity works focus more on children and finding solutions for women suffering from breast cancer. Now, that’s really touching not to mention interesting, right?! I hope she also give back to senior people in nursing homes. What do you think of Paris assisting the old ones in a nursing home, huh?!

Anyway, for someone blasted by PETA for wearing rabbit-fur boots, it seems ironic to learn that Paris is also an animal activist; of course we know how she loves her tiny dogs for display.

Our lovely heiress was also said to be donating closet sale to various charity organizations and homeless shelters including one for the Tsunami Relief. Hmmm…. I think I’m getting closer to tears here.

So okay, I know people would really think that it’s just right (and a must) for Paris to give things back to the needy, but I guess this (poor) heiress also deserve some credit for this. I mean, a little appreciation is not bad. And fact or fiction, I guess we must also realize that there’s more that meets the eye about Paris Hilton. It’s also good to know that she actually does charity works aside from partying, right?!

Paris Stiffs Pizza Boy!

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

2007-09-08t011812z_01_nootr_rtridsp_2_entertainment-hilton-hallmark-col.jpg

Well, looks like Paris already became bored with her charity project/pizza delivery boy/boyfriend. According to British newspaper The Sun, Paris has dumped 20-year-old Swedish tourist Alex Vaggo. Apparently, he’s too shy for her.

A source close to Paris says “She loved his good looks, but she gets bored very quickly, and he was just too shy and quiet for her. She likes bad boys.” Gee, maybe she should try dating rapper T.I. right now!

I knew this couldn’t last long. Paris once again proves that she’s attracted to the shallow things like looks. Here’s hoping Vaggo got some good connections and a few good jobs out of the deal!

In other Paris news, Paris has revealed that she is scared about her upcoming trip to Rwanda. “I’m scared, yeah. I’ve heard it’s really dangerous. I’ve never been on a trip like this before.”

During her humanitarian trip to Rwanda, Paris will be visiting schools and health-care clinics on her five-day trip, and staying in accomodations that are definitely not the four-star hotels she’s used to occupying. She will be traveling with Playing for Good-a children’s charity which helps businesses and celebrities get involved in philanthropic work, but with a camera recording it all.

It is hoped that the footage will be used for a reality show called “The Philanthropist,” featuring various celebrities on drives to help the world’s poor. Another version of “The Simple Life”-this time without Nicole Richie! I hope this charity does some good for the world’s poor, but I can’t wait to see how Paris handles this trip. Five days without bars and clubs? And will she have to eat the same food as the people she’s visiting? This could be very difficult for Paris. Stay tuned!

Paris’ New Philanthropy Role

Friday, October 12th, 2007

1587740.jpg

Well…guess I have to chow down on some crow! Many of us, myself included, never thought Paris was serious when she talked about turning over a new leaf and doing charity work. At least, I never thought she’d do any real, hands-on, down in the trenches charity work.

But now, Paris is actually helping out the less-fortunate. She’s taken this poor, young, Swedish foundling-barely able to make ends meet as a pizza delivery man-and adopted him! Alex Vaggo has a new and improved life, thanks to Paris.

Vaggo is now, partying, clubbing, eating in the best restaurants, even has a budding modelling career-all since meeting Paris. Vaggo talks about seeing Paris’ mansion while delivering pizza. “I saw Paris’ convertible sitting there and two weeks later I’m sitting next to her in the car. It’s unbelievable. (Thanks to her) I’m modeling, taking meetings, going to clubs, eating at great restaurants and living the high life. It’s amazing. She’s changed my life in every way,”

Twenty-six-year-old Paris rescued poor 20-year-old Swedish tourist Alex from a lowly existence in a $29-a-night hostel and has raised him part of the way to her own level-well on the way to becoming a rich, famous blonde, who does nothing but dress up, party, and have his picture taken! Do we really need a male counterpart to Paris?

But, let’s remember this is Paris Hilton we’re talking about. Give this “relationship” a short while (maybe six weeks, maybe less). She’ll tire of him, move on to something new, and that’ll be the end of it. Maybe he will at least get a few well-paying jobs out of the whole thing.

And I’m not saying that this is all Paris’ doing. I mean, just look at the quotes you hear from Vaggo. He talks about how his life has changed since meeting Paris, but all he talks about is the money, the fame, the celebrities-all the shallow things. He never once says anything truly meaningful.

Hmmm… Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the two are made for each other. Neither of them says anything truly meaningful, and they both love fame, money, and celebrity. This could be a match made in heaven. Or somewhere slightly lower!

Paris to Visit Rwanda

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

m_paris_hilton4.jpg

When Paris Hilton was released from jail, she vowed that she would put time into charitable works. Now, it looks as though she’s set to do just that. Paris has done little or no charitable work (outside of hosting parties, which is no change from her life before jail!) since she was released. Now comes word that she will visit Rwanda, in order to bring more attention to conditions there.

Scott Lazerson of Playing for Good, an organization which attracts celebrities and wealthy business moguls to charitable giving, has personally invited Paris to Rwanda to make a difference in the lives of people affected by war and poverty. Says Paris of the visit, “There’s so much need in that area, and I feel like if I go, it will bring more attention to what people can do to help.”

Paris plans to make the trip in November, following filming of her musical-horror film, Repo!, currently filming in Toronto. With the way the paparazzi follow Paris around, a visit by her will, indeed, draw attention to the area. Let’s just hope that it’s the right kind of attention and that it will make a big difference to the lives of people in Rwanda.

Dress-Up Day!

Friday, September 21st, 2007

parishilton_chrishatcherpz2.jpg

The word on SF Gate is that Paris has donated lots of her clothing and shoes to children’s charities.
Hilton reveals, “I have, like, a million clothes and more than 500 pairs of shoes, so I’m going to give a bunch of them to orphanages and children’s hospitals. I never wear something twice.”

I guess the kids can use them for dress-up. Halloween is coming up. I’m sure some of the kids would really like to be street-walkers!

Seriously, I’m sure the clothes will probably be auctioned but, seeing that this is Paris, couldn’t she have just donated the money? It’s not like she can’t afford it! Is this her idea of philanthropy?

Paris To Co-Chair AIDS Benefit

paris-partying.jpg

In keeping with her promise to do charitable works, Paris will co-chair the amfAR AIDS benefit. amfAR Rocks will be held in September in the Puck Building in New York. The benefit will be co-chaired by luxury fashion line Rock & Republic’s Michael Ball and Andrea Bernholtz.

The event will support AIDS research. amfAR has invested $260 million dollars in its programs, and has awarded grants to more than 2000 research teams worldwide, since 1985. Other stars attending will be Thom Filicia, Tim Gunn, Cynthia Nixon, and Ted Allen.

The New, Improved Paris

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

bilde.jpg

Delaware Online reports that the “new, improved” Paris Hilton looks a lot like last year’s model, with a little fine-tuning! Paris’ partying ways haven’t changed, but she has added some charitable causes to her schedule.

Paris has visited the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, and is in talks to be its ambassador.

“I went and visited the little premature babies who were only, like, 1 pound. And the cancer patients,” she says. “It’s nice when I can go there and visit them and brighten their day and make them smile. … I think it’s definitely important for people to give back.”

Paris has also applied her “hot” label to issues such as breast cancer and multiple sclerosis, having lost both her grandmothers to the diseases. So, although Paris is back to her old self, she does seem to have added some new issues to her plate-for now, at least.

Paris Embarrasses Grandpa!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

00022697_paris_handsonhead.jpg

Apparently, Paris has embarrassed her grandfather, Conrad Barron Hilton, to the point where he says “Enough is enough!” According to Product Reviews, is reporting that grandpa Barron has cut out Paris’ $60 million inheritance! Not only that, but he’s also cutting out his other 11 granchildren from his $2.4 billion fortune.

Grandpa Hilton has decided to leave his money to a charitable foundation, which will carry on the philanthropic work for which he has been known. Hurray for him! Obviously, he has not been impressed by the “philanthropy” Paris claims to have been engaging in, since she was released from jail.

It’s nice to know that somebody in this family has a conscience!

Paris Aims To Be the Next Oprah Winfrey

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

paris-and-the-knuckleball.jpg

I read the following press release at 24-7 Press Release:

PARIS HILTON ANNOUNCES SUMMER READING LIST IN EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE LITERACY
Paris Hilton has decided to use her high-profile status to help increase literacy. She has announced a four-book summer reading list that she feels is varied and will both inspire and entertain readers.

/24-7PressRelease/ - SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, July 08, 2007 - Now that she is out of jail, Paris Hilton, the celebrity socialite and actress, is anxious to do things that can have a beneficial influence on people. One of her first actions has been to announce her four-book summer reading list, filled with books old and new, with the hopes that it will help increase literacy. Paris Hilton stated that, “Oprah Winfrey has had such a positive influence on people by encouraging reading with her various book lists, book clubs, and recommended books, that I thought I could join in the effort to encourage people to not only read, but read worthwhile books, and so I have chosen four books that I know people will enjoy reading. I love to read and write - as I told Larry King in my recent interview with him, in school I loved being in creative writing classes.”

In announcing her summer reading list, Paris Hilton has chosen books that represent a varied spectrum. First and foremost on her list is the Bible, which is the book that helped her get through her prison experience. “When I read the Bible, I am always impressed by its timeless wisdom and simple but profound messages.”

Next on her reading list is “The Power of Now,” Eckhart Tolle’s bestseller that was first published in 1999. “This is such an important book, because it teaches the reader to be in the moment, to focus your mind on the here and now, and to pay attention. For so many people, focusing and paying attention is a real problem, and so many people are so easily distracted. This book has helped me immensely with my own attention deficit disorder.”
